Emergency board up secures a building after the damage and before the repairs. A broken window, a door kicked in, a hole in a roof or wall from a fallen limb or a car. Left open, the building takes on weather, animals and theft, and most homeowners policies expect the owner to take reasonable steps to prevent more damage.
Our crew boards openings with plywood cut to fit, usually 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch, fastened into the framing rather than the window trim so it holds in wind. Doors get a solid panel and a way to lock the property. Roof openings get heavy poly tarps battened down with lumber so strong canyon winds do not rip them loose. We photograph the openings before and after for your claim file.
Board up often comes with a water problem attached. A storm that broke a window usually blew rain in too, and a roof hole lets snowmelt into the attic and ceiling. We check for wet materials while we are there and start water extraction or structural drying on the same trip when it is needed. After a small kitchen fire, board up pairs with odor and smoke removal.
Property managers in Orem and Provo use board up for rentals between tenants and after break-ins. Call (385) 853-1062 and tell us what opening needs to be secured.
